The Guide to the Certified Criminal Investigator Body of Knowledge
Criminal investigators must identify and secure a crime scene, conduct interviews of witnesses and victims, interrogate suspects, identify and properly collect evidence, and establish and maintain chain of custody. Once an investigation is underway, a CI must demonstrate knowledge of investigative techniques for misdemeanor or felony and violent or non-violent crimes. A CI also must accurately and unbiasedly document each step in the process and be proficient at testifying at trial. The book covers the history and development of forensic studies, ethical behavior of the investigator, evidence collection and preservation, investigation management, and courtroom demeanor and testimony.
